scale | This letter scale has a plate on which still vaguely recognizable are the Dutch Postal rates. The diameter of the postal rates circle is sized to fit the plates of much smaller scales of 50 till 100 grams. Looking at the details, this is presumably also a scale made by Ph.J. Maul. The chart of 500 grams shows a stripe per five grams. Within the Netherlands the rate for a letter up to 15 grams was 5 cents, and up to 200 grams the rate was 10 cents. This postal rate was valid from 1892 to 1908. The rate up to 15 grams abroad to Belgium was 10 cents, and up to 15 grams to the other countries 12½cents. This foreign rate was valid between 1875 and October 1907. Therefore this scale dates from the period 1892-1907. Below some more pictures of this scale. | back of the scale |
