At the back of this letter scale are four patent indications: OEST.P. 1766; UNG.P. 16742; D.R.P. 112860 and finally D.R.P. 121631. The design shown in the Austrian patent (= OEST.P.), differs on many details from the specimen shown here. The patent was granted to the firm Balduin Heller's Söhne from Teplitz in Czechoslovakia. The application was made June 24, 1899, the patent was granted April 1, 1900. The first three figures of the Hungarian patent (= UNG.P.) HU16742 are identical with the figures of the Austrian patent. The figures 4, 5 and 6 show possible, other designs and they differ even a lot more. The application dates from July 6, 1899. The Hungarian patent is granted to the firm Balduin Heller's Söhne from Teplitz at January 4, of the year 1900.

The patent is entitled: bilateralis mérleg. The second German patent (= D.R.P.) DE121631 dates from March 29, 1899 and was also granted to Balduin Heller's Söhne from Teplitz. The 2 figures of this patent show a double pendulum scale that also differs on many details from the actual design. I yet didn't find the other, and older German patent with number 112860. This specimen lost most of  it's two indicators. These defects can be restored.  The scale has 2 charts. The lower chart ranges from 0 till 20 grams and has a stripe per gram. The upper chart ranges from 20 till 250 grams, here a stripe per five grams is given. The base is double-walled. I can't explain why the round lowered part at the bottom was made. The cylinder part shaped lowering of the upper side of the base is beautiful, but expensive. The rectangled plate with rounded corners has graceful cut-outs. This scale is strongly related to the previously shown bilateral letter scale from the period 1896-1918. Below some more pictures of this letter scale.
