Union letter scale | This chrome plated letter scale with the name Union is made by Pelouze Scale and Manufacturing Company from Chicago, USA. Engraved at the back are the dates of patent June 2 1896, March 29 1898, and January 31 1899. Plus the following countries: US and Canada, England, France, Belgium and Germany. At the lower side of the chart are the patent dates also printed. The patent of June 2 1896 is also mentioned at the STAR of Pelouze. The same patent dates and countries are also at the CRESCENT letter scale of Pelouze, shown before. The postal rates of 2c for a letter of 1 oz. was valid from 1885 till 1917 but also from 1919 till 1932. By closer examining the other postal rates of papers, or books and circulars, it would probably be possible to determine the | back of the scale |
period better. The chart has a stripe per each half ounce. The plate has two rising ornamental edges. Both sides show a decoration which is also present at the plate of the CRESCENT of Pelouze. Below some more pictures of this letter scale.
