Chadwick letter scale | This green tin letter scale was produced in Japan. Japan is printed on the packing and -Made in Japan- is stamped into the bottom of the scale. The logo of the Chadwick firm is ink-stamped on the box. Also the Chadwick logo is printed on the lower end of the scale. On more recent specimens this logo is replaced by just the text Chadwick. Chadwick-Miller Co. from Boston, Massachusetts was an American firm that imported articles from Japan. For instance, the earlier presented letter scale with stamp dispenser was also imported by Chadwick. Besides the green version, also a beige version exists. The 16 ounces are subdivided into half ounces. The letter rate of 5c indicates the period 1963-1968. The packing contains an extensive leaflet with postal rates information.
