letter scale

This bright blue letter scale was a promotional article for the medicine Slow-K -number#1 for K balance- from Ciba. The goodlooking design was protected in a patent. This dates May 27, 1986. The patent names J. Hunter Giltzow as the inventor. The patent number 4,591,013 is moulded at the bottom of the scale. The scale was manufactured in Hong Kong, this is also stated at the bottom of the scale. Also the name of the firm Park Sherman Inc. and Ketcham & McDougall, Inc, Roseland, N.J. U.S.A is moulded there. The letter scale is identical to the version presented in the six figures of the patent. There is also a Design patent of this scale. US Des. 289,385 of April 1987, it was granted to William Macowski.
Although the scale is made of plastic, it's a rather robust design. Very special is the possibility to switch to a second range by turning the thumb wheel situated at the bottom of the front. The scale can be swithed from 1 Lbs to 2
