letter scale | This old brass letter scale most probably was made in Germany, most likely by Ph.J. Maul. Still, no mark could be found. The scale has a turn-over counterweight, this gives it two ranges: 50 en 250 grams. The unit of measure is abbreviated engraved at the chart as Grm. Some photos show the letter scale before a severe polishing was done. Especially the appearance of the plate improved significantly. The brass chart is extremely difficult to read. The 250 grams chart is subdivided per five grams. The chart of 50 grams even is divided per half gram. The cast iron base has stripes of red copper paint.
