letter scale | This letter scale with a loose pan of aluminum was made by Jakob Maul from Germany. The scale doesn't differ much from the pan scale shown earlier, also by Jakob Maul. Only the pendulum is made differently. The range of this scale is 500 grams. Per 5 grams a measure stripe is given. The chart with the white figures on the black background is good readable. The readability is positively influenced by some tricks. By the use of smaller sized noughts, space is created for larger sized decimal figures. By omitting the figures for hundreds, again space is created for larger sized decimal figures. Somewhat odd is that this resulted in a chart that presents the same value several times, for instance 20 grams. Only be looking thoroughly and by comparing with neighbouring values, it will become clear whether it's 20 grams, 120 grams, 220 grams, 320 grams or 420 grams. The aluminum pan is more solid by the folded edge, the shape is also more beautiful. The cross-shaped holder for the pan is made of steel. Below some more photos of this letter scale. |
