columbus letter scale | This Columbus of Philipp Jakob Maul has a nicely decorated base in which the name Columbus. Three legs at the bottom of the base carry the scale. At the short brass links of the parallelogram of the scale, the logo of Ph.J. Maul is engraved. The plate of this specimen is slightly battered. A part of the edge is gone and the connecting pin once broke away from the plate and was repaired provisionally. At the front of the brass mechanism is written Columbus bilateral. The lower chart goes up to 100 grams. The old postal value of 15 grams is indicated separately. The upper chart goes to 500 grams.
