handheld scale | This is a handheld scale dating from circa 1900. In old catalogs it's described as a photographic handheld scale. The scale was delivered in a cardboard packing. The scale is made of fine nickel-plated brass. There exists a matted and a high polished version. The cheapest version was not nickel-plated, but was made of stained brass. The suspension thread is made of green silk, according to the catalog. My specimen does not have the original threads any more. The saucer also is made of of nickel-plated brass. For the saucer other materials are also mentioned in the catalog: celluloid and horn. Four different saucer diameters were available to order: 8, 10, 10.5 and 12.5 centimeters. Also several capacities: 100g, 250g and also 32 Drams. together with this | almost bare back-side |
