MAXIMUS rocker scale | This rocker scale has the limit value of 21 grams. The design of the letter scale was protected by a limited patent, a so-called GebrauchsMuster. It was granted to Ph.J. Maul. The patent has the number DE1722900U and probably was stamped with the date May 24 1956. The good to read application date is 8.3.56. The patent shows two figures. One of those, the table top version of the letter scale, is presented below. The other figure shows a version of the rocker scale suited for wall mounting. The scale of the patent has a limit value of 20.5 grams. The scale was probably produced for the German Mail [Deutsche Post], this based on the fact that the logo of the Deutsche Post is stamped in the scale. The scale has the name MAXIMUS. This name is also at the figure of the patent. This type of scale was also available on a stand complete with a spirit level. That version is described in patent DE1650767U from 1953 and already even in DE1649829U also from 1953. The scale was available with a postal limit value of 10, 15, 20 or 50g and also of 5g for airmail. The Überportowaage came with its own test weight made of flat brass sheet, see pictures below. I received two test weights as a gift from Herr Dieter Maul from Germany. |
