Victor letter scale | The name of this postal scale design is presented at the front: Victor. The maker is Pelouze Scale & MFG. Co., Chicago, USA. In small characters is stated that W.N. Pelouze received the copyright in 1897. At the bottom line are two patent dates: August 3, 1897 and March 29, 1898. The capacity is 24 ounces. The chart is subdivided per half ounce. The postal rate for letters is 2c for 1 oz. Foreign letters cost 5c for the first ounce and thereafter 3c per ounce. At the Columbian page more information about these rates is given. At the pictures below there is also a Victor specimen originated from the Omaha Hotel Supply, from Omaha Nebraska. This paper name sticker got totally lost in the anti corrosion treatment and the final cleaning. To prevent a quick theft from a desk a bolt was soldered at the bottom. | back of the scale |

This model has two supporting legs under the plate. An older version of the Victor has just one curved leg under the plate. Pelouze made several other Victor-like models: The Duchess and the Countess. The edges of the Countess are decorated with many curlicues. Below some more pictures of the Victor letter scale.
