scale, opener and magnifier

This is a combination of a postal scale, a letter opener and a magnifier. The transparent part is made of Lucite®, a methyl methacrylate polymer by DuPont. The design of the scale was made by Douglas F. Linsley. It was protected with a normal patent and also with a Design patent. The US patent with number 2,949,287 was applied on October 29 1957. It was granted on August 16 1960. The patent figures clearly differ from the actually made postal scale. The application for

the American Design patent with number D188,151 was made on March 12 1959. It was granted June 7 1960. The leaflet of this postal scale presents directions for use and also a simplified postal rates survey with the date January 1 1964. This was not a date on which an official change of postal rates was made in the USA. It's remarkable to see this box has a sticker of a Scottish shop. Apparently this letter scale was sold outside the United States as well. The scale has a metal shifting poise. With this, the scale can be adjusted per half an ounce. The maximum of the range is 2 ounces. Below some more pictures of this combined letter scale, letter opener and magnifier.
