Chatillon gram scale | This scale originated from the USA is not special merely because it measures in grams, an odd unit of measure for Americans in those old days. The chart can be rotated in order to start the pointer at zero in a weighing process of adding different ingredients on the scale. The design of the rotatable face plate, or dial, was protected with an American patent on May 12 1925. The patent with the US number 1,537,158 was applied for on September 7 1923 by George E. Chatillon. The patent number is printed at the face plate, therefore this scale dates from a date after May 12 1925. The patent claims a design in which a reliable amount of friction ensures the user the set position of the chart. Below some more pictures of this scale. | back of the scale |
