Saler No. 11 letter scale | This letter scale is made by George Salter & Co. Ltd., West Bromwich, Staffordshire, England. The scale has the number 11 on the dial. The mechanism is according to an old design. It was patented already in January 1867 by John Silvester. This version with the green housing assembled of cast iron parts, was produced since the 1930's. The capacity is 24 ounces, per ¼ ounce a stripe of measure is given. The dial has the English postal rates for letters at the inside of the full circle. This rate of 1½ D up to 2 ounces, 2 D till 4 oz., and 2½ D till 6 oz. was valid in the period May 14 1923 till May 1 1940. Here a circular shaped plate is applied. Also versions with a rectangular plate exist. Besides this beautiful brass dial, also white lackered and enamel versions exist.
