letter scale, letter opener and letter fit | simplified patent figure | This Post-penguin proves to be a species protected by law. In 1998 the designer Jens Schrader applied for this protection. On December 30 1999 a protective German patent with the number DE19827984 was granted. The simplified patent figure alongside shows some differences with the ultimately produced design. To make the clipping of a letter easier and to ensure that the head of the penguin remains unimpaired, a large cut out is made in the head of the penguin. The markings at the ventral -belly- side of the penguin for measuring length are left out. Also the 500 grams rocking line near the neck was cancelled. The foot of the penguin should be used to open letters. At the back -the dorsal side- of the penguin cut outs corresponding with the different German letter sizes serve to fit and check the proper dimensions of the different mail classes. Below some more pictures of this Post-penguin letter scale. |
