This modern letter scale originated from Japan. The patent number 2304233 is molded into the plastic housing. I could not find the actual patent yet. The base and the top are to be folded out in order to use the letter scale. The front size equals the size of a credit card. The thickness is limited to 7.5 milimetres. The leaflet is printed in English, German and French. The capacity is 100 grams. The chart has a stripe of measure per 10 grams. Below some more pictures of this letter scale.
