Criterion letter scale

A paper copy of a Salter No. 18 chart is glued on this letter scale. It looks to be a success but it is not. According to this chart the capacity of this scale is 8 ounces. In reality it's double this value, namely 16 ounces. To view a correct chart for this letter scale look at the Criterion presented earlier. The main difference between these two versions is the design of the base part. Registered Design number 583703 and Made in England is stamped in the base. This design number dates from 1911 according to the list British Design Registrations which Michael Crawforth presented in his Handbook of old weighing instruments. I found the ad on the right in the 1922 trade magazine Geyer's Stationer.
Below some more pictures of this letter scale with the beautiful base design.
