large letter scale | This large letter scale is made by Jakob Maul from Germany. The JM logo is at the back of the cast iron frame. This scale has three ranges, 100, 600 and 2000 grams. In order to use the 100 grams range it is necessary to unhook the indicator arm from the large pendulum arm with the turnover poise. The design of this extra pendulum arm which can be coupled, is protected by a German patent. The patent with number DRP 653333 was granted on August 29 1936. It was published on November 4 1937. The figures of the patent show an image in reverse of the letter scale photographed. Furthermore, the scale in these patent drawings only has two charts, and the pendulum can't be turned up or down. The lower short lever of the parallelogram mechanism is lengthened and carries a small poise. The chart of 100 grams has a stripe of measure for each gram. The chart of 600 grams shows a stripe per each five grams. Each area of twenty grams is divided into two by a red and wide tape at the lower edge of this chart. This chart is in use with the pendulum turned upwards and coupled indicator arms. In order to use the chart of 2000 |

grams, it is necessary to turn the pendulum to the lower position. The design has flexible stops at the beginning and at the end of the range. This stalwart letter scale has a distinctive leveling construction with two feet resting at the underground. Below some more pictures of this letter scale.
