Salter letter scale | This Salter letter scale shows the well-known Salter logo with an arrow piercing a Staffordshire knot at the top of the chart. At the bottom of the chart is engraved SALTERS, notably ending with the capital S. This design with the base with lobed edges exists since 1920's. This scale with a capacity of 4 ounces, shows the inland postal rate for letters at the left side of the chart. 1½D for a letter up to 2 oz, and 2D for a letter up to 4 oz. This rate was valid in the period May 14 1923 till May 1 1940. Reading the black chart is very difficult. The pictured aluminum plate most probably is not original.
