Unique egg scale, USA | This egg scale with the name Unique was made by The Specialty Manufacturing Company, Saint Paul, Minnesota, USA. This compagny also made the better known ACME egg scale. No patent connected with this Unique egg scale was found. The scale has two divisions: ounces per dozen eggs, and points per egg. Egg farmers used egg scales to sell the eggs sorted in weight classes. This was more profitable then selling them unsorted. The points per egg were used in egg-laying contests held since 1911 in the USA. Per chicken the egg production was recorded by weighing over a certain period. Per kip werd gedurende een bepaalde periode de eierproductie door weging bijgehouden. The higher the total score in points, the better. The dating of this Unique egg scale is a bit tricky. The egg scale was offered for sale in 1935 and still in 1947 (source: North American Egg Scales by Charley Amsbaugh). | the other side of the Unique egg scale |
