Dominion egg scale, Canada
Dominion egg scale from Canada

This Dominion egg scale came from Canada and according to the sticker at the back of the scale it was made and/or sold by the Canadian Slicer Corporation Limited, Bowmanville, from Ontario in Canada. The scale of this egg grader presents seven weights per dozen eggs: 16 - 18 - 20 - 22 - 24 - 26 - 28. The egg scale was used to determine the weight in ounces of a dozen eggs with a similar weight of the egg in question. The eggs were classified in one of the above-mentioned weight classes. The egg scale is based on a system where a lever automatically tilts extra weight(s) while tilting, until a balance is reached with the egg on the other side of the lever pivot point. The six thin aluminum strips are those extra weights. This system is already shown at this website at the page of the American letter scale, see the Stamprite and also at this page with the ACME egg scale. The ACME even has nine weight classes and thus eight thin aluminum weight strips. The base with the upright part for the

two axes of this Dominion is made of steel. The base of the ACME is aluminum. Due to corrosion the appearance had changed considerably, see both pictures of the egg scale taken before the refurbishment. This consisted of dismantling, rust removing, priming and spraying green. The aluminum parts were cleaned with soap and water and polished with an aluminum polish. After that, the parts were re-assembled and the Dominion is displayed in full gloss.
Below some more pictures of this Canadian egg scale.
