the Zenith egg grader | This egg grader originates from the U.S.A.. The brand name is Zenith. Orlando W. Bedell from Earlville, New York is the maker of the first models. A lot of information about the Zenith egg graders is given in North American Egg Scales - from ABC to Zenith by Charley Amsbaugh. There are different versions and models. This typical American egg scale has a scale on which the weight per dozen eggs is given. This scale ranges from 18 to 30 ounces per dozen. The scale has a set screw and two adjustable screws with a black rubber cap. These can function as a stop to do a division into three weight classes. Lighter than = counterweight against the lower stop, heavier than = lower lever against the other stop. Moving in between = the intermediate weight class. According to an original leaflet, the Zenith would normally be supplied with a test weight to check the value of 22 ounces per dozen (22/12 oz = 52grams). The molded parts have a number. The name is cast in the base of the egg grader. The colors red and blue are characteristic of the Zenith egg scale. | back of the egg scale |
