Algocratine letter scale | Algocratine is the name of a medicine, it is a pain-killer, a sedative. It contains 0.400 g Asprin; 8 mg codéine phosphate en 0.200 g vitamin C. The most recent producer is Roche Nicholas.
In 1997 the production of Algocratine comprime seized. Before a Frenchman told me the producer was named Laboratoire Soekami-Lefrancq. Researches resulted in finding out this firm was taken over in 1995 by the before mentioned firm Roche | back of the scale |
Nicolas. Elsewhere it is claimed this letter scale dates from about 1940. I found a second indication where a letter rack with the name Algocratine on it as a promotional gift item is dated to 1940 also. Ocassionally, this letter scale is offered for sale on auction sites. The scale with a capacity of 100 grams shows a stripe of measure for each gram. The measuring value is indicated with a figure per each five gram, this helps the reading off. The housing is made of wood with an imitation leather top layer glued to it. The back panel is made of cardboard covered with an imitation leather layer. Its connected to the housing with five copper nails. The letter scale has two fixed feet. A third foot is adjustable and with this the letter scale can be put tot zero. Below some more photos of this nice letter scale.
