letter scale | This letter scale has a beautiful silver colored base, probably this is nickel plated. This type was produced about 1909. The chart of 60 grams has a stripe of measure per gram up to 20 grams. Above 20 grams there is a stripe of measure per five grams. The weighing mechanism is a familiar frequently applied type. It is mounted on this pretty base by a nut at the bottom. The character at the three corners of the base looks to be Aeolus, the god of winds. Of course, I could be wrong. The molded part has no marks. Below some more pictures of details of this silver colored little letter scale. The figure in the corner down-left is taken from page 5 of the 1909 Catalog of Ph. J.
