candlestick letter scale | This letter scale originates from England. The model is referred to as candlestick. The top plate reads LETTER BALANCE and the design registration number 733389. According to the article Candlesticks, Part 1, in EQM No.1 2006, pp. 3099-3109 of Brian Brass, Rd. 733389 is given to A. Barker in 1928. Three different versions of this letter scale are known, the one presented here, one with the diamond logo of Criterion (owned by Setton & Durward) and one without a logo or the Rd. number. Instead on that spot it has the text: Made in England. That specimen is mounted on a cylindrical disc of synthetic material.
The weighing capacity is 6 ounces, the value 0 is not indicated, it only reads ½, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6. This letter scale is made of poorly chromium-plated tin and is easily corroding. The letter plate has a brass colored top layer, the steady cylinder part has a brass ornamental collar. The indicator is also brass. The height of this letter scale is just 86 millimeters. Below some more pictures of this letter scale. |
