paper scale in use

Stored in its luxury box this paper scale is suited for traveling. the hinged box contains three parts of a suspension pole and the actual paper weigher. Moreover, under an inner cover two pairs of custom templates for cutting the paper are included. The range of this paper scale is 0 to 200 grams per square meter. The chart has a stripe of measure for each 2 grams. The larger pair of templates measures 7 x 7 centimeters. The smaller pair has the dimensions 3,5 x 7 centimeters. For lighter paper we use the large template.
Determining the paper weight per square meter is a quality measurement. This is done by placing a sufficiently large piece of paper between the template sections. These template parts fit together precisely: two sharp-pointed pins of one plate fit exactly into the two holes of the other plate. Along the four sides of the template the paper is cut with a razor blade or another sharp knife, for example a scalpel. Mind your fingers. then one takes the tailored paper from the template and attach it onto the sharp hook of the paper scale. Again mind your fingers. Wait for the scale to rest. Now the pointer indicates the weight per square meter of

the tested paper sample. A heavy paper quality (above 200 grams per square meter) is tested by using the smaller sized templates. Then, the surface of the testing paper is half the surface of the larger testing paper. The values of the chart are multiplied by two in case one uses the smaller size templates. The weighing range of the scale also multiplies by two, so it becomes 400 grams per square meter. The following pictures explain the use of this paper scale.
