parcel scale, design: Innovation Affairs | This set of parcel scales was designed by Nico van Oers and Jelmer Jarig Huizinga of Innovation Affairs, Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Several patents were granted. In the Netherlands a patent application was already made in 2003, the patent was granted in 2005. A world patent WO 2005/033638 was published April 14, 2005. In the U.S.A. a Design Patent D558,078 was granted on December 25, 2007. The construction exists of an plastic top plate standing on slanting metal leaf springs. These leaf spring legs are fitted with plastic boots. Here the leaf springs are covered with paper parts which have advertising for eBay and USPS. Because this one is designed for users of auction website eBay in partnership with the USPS.
There are three units for the American market made

with the weight classes: 1, 2, and 3 Lbs (1 pound = 453,59 gram). Successively the red, white and blue. By stacking, they also combine to 5 and 6 lbs.
While the cone parts fit together. When the cone of the top plate hits the surface the parcel is heavier than the weight indicated on the parcel scale or the combined parcel scales. The claim that this scale is suited to weigh letters is only true for weight limits of 1 lbs and above.
With a package or book on the weighing unit it is not all easy to determine if the cone touches the surface or not. Ergonomically, it's all not very good.
The weighing process is indeed reduced to whether or not a postal weight limit is exceeded, but seeing whether or not the cone hits the surface is not always easy.
Previously the team of Innovation Affairs designed the letter scale EasyWeigh. This letter scale was released in several countries by National Mail Services, among others. The displayed parcel scale look nice with the bright primary colors.
The parcel scale is also present on the website of Innovation Affairs. Below some more pictures of these stackable parcel weighing units.
