Weylet pocket letter scale, Salter's No. 32 | The WEYLET is a letter scale for the convenience for those who travel, this is a text in the 1939 catalog of Geo. Salter & Co. Ltd. The pocket letter scale has the looks and the sizes of a fountain-pen. It was made in several different color mixtures, a blended dark and a lighter cream blended version. The range of weighing is 8 ounces subdivided per ¼ ounce. A version with a range of 150 grams subdivided per 5 grams is available also, according to the same catalog. This grams-version doesn't have postal letter rates. On the other side of the Weylet scale in ounces are the English postal rates for | the Weylet pocket letter scale |
letters. Up to 2 oz took 2½D, 4 oz 3D, 6 oz 3½D and 8 oz took 4D. This postal letter rate was valid during the period May 1, 1940 to May 1, 1952. The back of the cream colored version does not have the postage anymore. Probably produced when it was clear that the postal rates for letters would change.
