WMF letter scale | The ornamental base of this letter scale is unmistakably made by WMF, a German manufacturer. At the bottom are the capitals WMFB and the smaller letters a and s. The meaning of the letters WMF is known, it is the abbreviation for Württembergische Metallwarenfabrik. The capital hoofdletter B means Britannia Metal, a tin alloy with a silvery appearance. The letters a and s indicate an antique silver finish, this means flat areas are polished and decorative areas are left oxidised. I collected this information mainly from the Pewterbank and from this ASCAS page. Search at the former site for WMF. In other documentation of WMF this letter scale probably is depicted as Nr. 117 on a page that was dated with a pen to 1898. Below the drawing of Nr. 117 is presented next to a photo of the letter scale with the base oriented in an identical position. The letter scale mechanism part has no mark, it is an old and more often seen and applied model. The scale goes up to 50 Grammes. Below some more pictures of this little old WMF letter scale. | back of the letter scale |
