paper scale A. v.d. Korput | This large paper scale was delivered by A. v.d. Korput from Baarn, in Holland. Arnoldus Johannes Josephus Maria van der Korput was for many years active in instruments for materials research. Together with Dr. Gyula Bekk from Amsterdam he developed equipment for testing and diagnose paper. I do not know where the actual paper scale was manufactured. The letters on the brass scale seem somewhat amateurish. The scale ranges up to 250 grams per square meter. This paper weight determination is done by cutting a test piece of 10 by 10 centimeters with a sharp knife and usually using templates. This test paper is hung on the sharp hook and the scale is read at the indicator arm. The highest fixed point of the paper scale, the top of the fulcrum portion, is 39.5 centimeters. The highest point is the point of suspension for the test paper, which is even 46.5 centimeters high. The main axis is dangerously sharp and unnecessarily long, presumably this is not original. The axis will be shortened later. | back of the scale |
