This letter scale came from France and was made by Ed. Widmann from Paris. According to a French source he worked in the period 1909 - 1931. His initials EW are on the front of the letter scale. This graceful letter scale has a wooden base. The foot stands on two small solid metal cones and on one in height-adjustable leveling screw. The weighing range is typical for France: 350 grams. Up to 60 grams there is a stripe of measure for every five grams, above 60 grams the scale is subdivided per ten grams. The height of this letter scale is 198 millimeters. There are many variants of the Pèse-lettres EW: on a wooden base, round or rectangular, on a metal base, a graceful cloisonne inlaid in the metal foot or also in a wooden foot, on ornamental stone, and so forth. There also exist versions with a more limited range up to 100 grams.
