Blikman & Sartorius letter scale | this letter scale is depicted in a catalog of Blikman & Sartorius from Amsterdam from the period 1922-1929. Blikman & Sartorius is a very old trading company that began in 1749. They were active in office supplies, office furniture and office machines. Later they also had a printing works and mainly produced for stationary stores. Today they mainly supply to the printing industry. This letter scale was sold by B & S but was certainly not made by them. Who manufactured the letter scale and where, I still don't know. The letter scale has no mark or logo. Whether other suppliers were also selling this letter scale, is unknown to me. The scale mechanism would have been copper plated, but now there is not a trace of copper left. Before the refurbishment there was a lot rust. This letter scale weighs up to 250 grams. Up to 50 grams the scale is subdivided per five grans, above 50 grams there is a stripe of measure per ten grams. The scale has a characteristic reading window. | back of the scale |
