letter scale, maker Ph.J. Maul
letter scale with Dutch postal rates

This small letter scale was made by Philipp Jakob Maul from Hamburg in Germany. The weighing capacity is only 50 grams. The Dutch postal rates are printed on the top plate. The inland letter rates date from the period September 1, 1937 until August 20, 1940. The stone base seems a useful paperweight. An adjusting screw to adjust the letter scale to zero is not present.
