letter scale, Netherlands | This scale is largely made of wood. The scale of measurement is of cardboard. The axes are of steel and rotate in metal bushes and at one spot in a metal triangle. There is also one metal connecting rod. The counterweight is of zinc or of lead. The scale is intended for domestic use (in Dutch: Voor Huishoudelijk Gebruik), this is stated at the cardboard. The scale weighs up to 250 grams. Per 5 grams there is a short stripe and per ten grams a longer stripe. Figures are limited to per 50 grams. The previous owner has written brieven at 20 grams for clarity, pity that in turn this is barely legible. In an article by Rein Kok in Meten & Wegen, of September 2014, No. 167, titled Veteranen onder de brievenwegers (translated: Veterans among the letter scales) on pages 3983-3985 a red version of this scale is presented. That one has the number K1316 at the lower right corner of the cardboard, that would be an admission number. The scale is dated to the war years 1940-1945. | back of the scale |
