dozen or calculations scale of Max Kohl | This Dutzendwaage (German meaning: dozen scale) or Kalkulationswaage (German meaning: calculations scale) comes from Germany and was made by Max Kohl Aktiengesellschaft from Chemnitz. I have not (yet) found exactly the same model in a Max Kohl catalog. The Textil Prüfapparate Katalog Liste 210/II from about 1938 shows a Dutzendwaage with a slightly different building, see the scan below. The dozen scale has a scale for the weight for single pieces in grams, and directly underneath this you can read the weight in grams for 12 units of the product. With the advantage that no further calculation is needed. The range of the single piece scale is 850 grams. The dozen scale ends at 10,000 grams, and could better have ended at 10,200 grams. The scale is easy to read in the whole range. The single piece scale has a stripe of measure per each two grams up to 400 grams. Then up to 600 grams there is a stripe for each 5 grams. Finally, up to 850 grams a stripe per 10 grams is given. The dozen scale has also three areas. From 0 up to 4000 grams every 20 grams, fom 4000 to 7000 grams every 50 grams and up to 10,000 grams each 100 grams has a stripe of measurement. I made the missing suspended curved weighing platform with the image of the catalog as an example. The maximum height of this dozen scale is 65 centimeters. In Druckschrift 263 (a catalog) of Louis Schopper from 1924 page 128 presents even two dozen scale models (Dutzendwaagen). A standing model, similar to the one shown here, and a portable hand scale model complete with storage pouch. | back of the scale |
