Lindells letter scale | This letter scale was made by Lindells Vågfabrik AB from Jönköping in Zweden. The contour of the scale is known of the Englishman Nathaniel Richard Hall. Previously some scales with the same contour were described already, see, eg, goose neck, the Let-R-Way, and the Loth letter scale. The particularity of the Lindells shown here is that the scale has three weighing ranges. The scale has a slot track with three little side tracks where the suspension part can be stably inserted. The weighing ranges are 0-20g, 20-125g and 125-500g. The lowest weighing range scale is read off at the sharp arrowhead of the indicator. That scale has five grams per one mark. The middle weighing range is read off at the small triangle at the top edge of the window in the indicator. 20g, 50g, 100g, and 125g are marked. The top weighing range is read off at the small triangle at the lower edge of the window in the indicaror. It has stripes of measure at 125g, 200g, 300g, 400g, and 500g. It is a solid well constructed letter scale. There exists also a Lindells letter scale with two weighing ranges of 0-125g and 125-500g. Also, there exist other -mostly older- Swedish hand-held letter scales of this model with only one weighing range. Several of them bear the name Frans Svanström, usually with the addition of the word patent. I have not found this patent. Frans Svanström owned a stationary and in 1857 he started a paper trade in Stockholm. Other old Swedish hand-held letter scales don't have a mark at all. Lindells made another letter scale model and also a range of household and kitchen scales. | back of the letter scale |
