Narcisse Briais letter scale
This handheld scale for weighing letters comes from Narcisse Briais, from Paris in France. The initials N.B. are engraved. Also it reads DÉPOSÉ, this means the design was protected. The weighing range of the scale is 30 grams. The original nickel layer is partially worn away. The value 7½ is still shown separately, therefore this scale would be from before 1862. More on that see letter scale G. Hund. Next to the value 5 is the capital G, this indicates the unit of measure is Grammes. Up to 15 grams there is a stripe of measure per each gram, above this per each five grams. The sizes of this letter scale are 104 millimeters long by 45 millimeters wide.
