This letter scale design is known as candlestick. The letter scale depicted here is from England, this based on the scale in ounces and pence. The weighing range is 2 ounces. The scale of measure reads ½ oz = 1D, 1 oz = 2D en 2 oz = 4D. This English postal rate for letters was valid between January 10, 1840 and April 1, 1865. There is no manufacturer's name on this candlestick. Often this is the case. The most famous English names are R.W. Winfield (Robert Walker) and J. & E. Ratcliff (Joseph & Edmund).
