This is the smallest version of the letter scale with a curl in the frame. The scale has no M-logo. Nevertheless this scale was sold by Philipp Jakob Maul from Hamburg in Germany. This model is depicted in several catalogs from the period 1900-1915. This design has just one weighing range from zero to 50 grams. The enamel scale has a stripe of measure for each gram.
The top plate has the German postal rates valid in the period 1900-1906.
Earlier a larger version was presented, see the 500 grams letter scale with German postal rates from the period 1909-1916.
Usually, the letter scales with a curl, thanks to the turn-over counterweight, have two weighing ranges, see for instance 50g/250g letter scale, or this 250g/1000g letter scale. The largest curl letter scale has the weighing ranges 500g and 2000g.
