letter scale with spherical counterweight | This is a fairly old letter scale from Germany. The maker is unknown to me. There is no brand or logo on the letter scale. There is number 13 on the back of the scale and the pendulum arm. Above the GRM indication for the scale on the left is the number 1. The 250 grams scale has a stripe of measurement per five grams. The value 15 is marked with numbers, otherwise only 0, 50, 100, 150, 200, and 250. In Germany, the rate limit of 15 was already changed into 20 grams for inland mail from April 1, 1900 onwards. The 15 gram limit value was only finally abolished internationally in the Universal Postal Convention of January 1, 1922. | back of the letter scale |
