letter scale, maker A.E.
the 250g/1000g scale of August Eisel

This shaky scale was probably made by August Eisel from Iserlohn in Germany. This presumption is based on the abbreviation A.E., the spelling of Wage and an advertisement circulating on the internet of August Eisel Metallwarenfabrik from Iserlohn from 1921, see bottom right of this page. The spelling Wage was prescribed in Prussia in 1902 and 1908 (according to Wiktionary.org).
The connections of the frame parts are rather rickety, they are not sufficiently rigid, and the parts move a little too easily. The scale has two weighing ranges thanks to the foldable load arm. With the short load arm it can weigh up to 1000 grams. With the long load arm you weigh up to 250 grams. The scale is 34.5 centimeters high, the diameter of the dial is 11.5 centimeters.
The pointer and weighing plate were missing from the copy purchased by me. I made them on the basis of measurement data and received photos from co-collector and owner of a much more robust specimen. The frame of his A.E. scale is made of solid brass plate, see the photo at the bottom left of this page. That specimen still has the same dial.
Below some more pictures of this very special scale.
