the large John Nesbitt yarn scale
This is a yarn scale made by John Nesbitt from Manchester in England. There are four divisions on the scale. The yarns are measured in fixed lengths in yard or 40 yards to determine the yarn number. I miss the user instructions for this Yarn & Cloth Balance by John Nesbitt. Who can help me with a copy?
This yarn scale should have an adjustment weight to set the correct values. This weight is also missing from my scale. I made a weight myself from an old coin from Germany. The yarn scale is adjusted to the value 40 on the scale with the adjustment weight on the suspension hook by adjusting the two flat round brass adjusting nuts on the top of the moving arm. Without the adjustment weight, the scale must of course return to the value zero. The scale has a beautifully executed fine-mechanical pivot. This yarn scale is 26 cm high. The frame is made of cast iron, the scale and the rotation shaft holder are made of brass.
