letter scale | This letter scale has an isosceles base, a separate shape of the letter tray and a measuring scale fixed only on one side. The letter scale comes from Germany and is probably quite old. The weighing range is rather odd, namely 125 grams. In Sweden there were post weight limits of 15, 125, and 250 grams between 1880 and 1907. This letter scale was probably intended for use in Sweden during that period. The scale has one stripe per five grams and there is stripe per gram between ten and twenty grams. There are numbers at 0, 15, 25, 50, 75, 100 and 125. The unit of measurement grams is there with the abbreviation GRM. The brass stand has a square section. On the bottom of one of three legs are two crosses (X). The scale is 18.5 cm high. The letter plateau is 6.5 cm wide. I could not find an image in a catalog. | back of the letter scale |
