amalgam dosing scale of Dr. Walter und Schmitt

This scale comes from Germany and was made by Dr. Walter und Schmitt from Schwäbisch Gmünd. The design was protected by the German patent DE658130 of September 29, 1935. The scale was used by dentists to prepare amalgam. In the past, cavities in teeth and molars were filled with amalgam. Nowadays there are better fillers, usually a composite is used now. Mercury pellets were placed in the dish on one side of the scale and a metal powder alloy on the other side. The scale has markings with which certain dosing ratios are easy to set. In the journal Mass und Gewicht, Nr. 109 2014, on page 2709 plus the pages 2711-2718 is an article by Egon Rempen with the title Die W&S-Amalgam-Waage für Zahnärzte und einige europäische Vorläufer dieser Waage seit etwa 1910. It includes the manual for this scale, all in German.
