Pilot letter scale, made in England
the Pilot letter scale, made in England

This letter scale with the model name Pilot comes from England. The Pilot has a cardboard packaging that opens after removing the lid. The flip-open inside shows the English letter rate that applied from May 1, 1952 to January 1, 1956. The label on the package reads No. 371 Maroon that is chestnut brown or a dark red. I have also seen a Green Pilot.
The weighing range is 1 Lbs and this is per ½ ounce and per ¼ Lb subdivided. The chart is the same to the left and right of the double pointer. The base measures 92 by 52 millimeters. The scale height is 85 millimeters. The letter tray is 58.5 millimeters round. The spring force can be adjusted with the rotary knob on top of the scale housing. This way the scale can be adjusted, under which viewing angle this is done remains difficult.
