Regent letter scale | This is a letter scale made by Jakob Maul. The JM logo is clearly present at the front plate above the weight scale. Also the name of the model is printed here: REGENT. This letter scale has a turn-over counterweight placed at the back. This gives the scale a more quiet appearance, but at the same time, it becomes more difficult to switch the counterweight. The ranges are 100 and 500 grams. The 100 grams scale has a division stripe per gram, the 500 grams scale has a stripe per five grams. The rising of values from right to left, is odd. The base plate of the scale has a thin plate of spring steel riveted to it at one side. This thin plate is the actual mounting plate for the letter scale. The position of the mounting plate can be adjusted by turning the screw. This to adjust the scale to zero. | back of the scale |

A piece of cardboard is glued to the bottom of the base plate. Traces of a soft foam layer are still present at the cardboard. The purpose was to prevent scratches at the underground. More recent specimens don't bear the name of the model, the present logo of Jakob Maul is at the front plate. This was introduced in 1985. Het Amerikaanse IDL heeft een sterk lijkend model met de naam Governor Postal Scale No.80. Dit model heeft geen omklapbaar pendelgewicht. The American IDL had a very similar model with the name: Governor Postal Scale No.80. This model does not have a turn-over counterweight. The scale of 8oz. also gives the usual postal rates. The postal rate of 5c for a letter First Class Mail was valid from 1963 till 1968. The swing bar is marked: Germany. Below some more photos of my REGENT letter scale.
