yarn scale according to Staub, Max Kohl no. 7063 | This yarn scale was made by Feinmechanik Max Kohl Aktiengesellschaft, from Chemnitz in Germany. (Feinmechanik is German, translated: precision mechanics). In the catalogs of Max Kohl from 1938 and 1939 the yarn scale is depicted and is called a yarn scale according to Staub. This Emil Staub from Leipzig obtained an English patent GB6703 on the design on 19 May 1886. In the U.S.A. a patent was also obtained on April 10, 1888 with the number US380,826. The yarn scale shown here is a small travel version that was delivered in a cardboard storage box. This yarn scale is composed of three parts: the scale part, an upright extension, and the cast iron base. At the top, next to the upright, hangs a wire with a metal ball on the free end. This plumb line is an aid when setting up the yarn scale horizontally. In the supplied case, there are three templates and a control weight marked 80M. The 2.5 5 and 10 square centimeters templates serve as a measurement for cutting test pieces from fabrics. The also supplied 10 cm brass ruler is used to measure the desired yarn length. The vertical metal wire forms the sliding weight on the weighing arm of the yarn scale. This should indicate 80 cm on the M scale when the scale arm is horizontal and the control weight 80M hangs from the large hook of the yarn scale. The yarn scale comes with a short typewritten manual with the date February 19, 1943. There is also a printed three-page detailed manual. The case also contains three split pins of different sizes, I don't know how to use them. I don't know whether they belong as standard. The cardboard storage box also contains two foldable wire counters, which are small, handy, magnifying magnifiers. Probably Max Kohl did not include these by default, and they were added later by the user. The scale is 168 millimeters high. The diameter of the scale foot is 48.5 mm. The dimensions of the packaging box: 116 x 116 x 63 mm. | back of the yarn scale |
