Brown & Bigelow advertising letter scale
This is a moderately executed ugly version of a previously shown letter scale, see the diabolo. The top diameters of the flattened cones are different and therefore do not fit together nicely, which is the case with the diabolo. A roll of stamps or post stickers fits in the bottom. There are four slots, that's three too many. The company Brown & Bigelow, from St. Paul, Minnesota, U.S.A. is the supplier of this promotional item. On the top surface is an advertisement for the company Priebe Printers from Chicago, U.S.A. The scale goes up to 8 ounces and has a division per ounce. The aluminum scale part containing a spring steel compression spring is identical to the mechanism of the Scale Queen and the Scale King. These versions have a scale that is divided by half an ounce.
The diabolo model was protected for only three months on November 16, 1961 with a Gebrauchsmuster DE1841625U in Germany in the name of Salm + Henkels from Solingen-Merscheid. In the U.S.A. the diabolo model was protected with an American Design patent with number D193,682. It is dated September 25, 1962. It is in the name of Arthur Salm Inc. Chicago, Illinois, U.S.A.
