First Generation Reliable egg scale | This First Generation Reliable egg scale was made by The Reliable Manufacturing Company, from Los Angeles, California, U.S.A. in the period 1923-1943. This egg scale has no chart. With the folding weight and the two loose weights, six egg weight classes can be determined, per egg or, as is more common in America, per dozen eggs. I do not know whether there was a package insert to indicate the egg weight classes at different positions of the folding weight and whether or not a separate weight was added. An original wooden base bears a stamp with the name and address of the maker: Reliable Mfg. Co. 2636 Humboldt Rd. Los Angeles, Cal.. The wooden base in the photos was added by me and therefore not original, the two loose weights are also not original, but added. Thanks to the stepped ends of the wooden base, the egg scale fits on the edges of the standard egg crates from that time. [Source: North American Egg Scales by Charley Amsbaugh].
