This letter scale is made by Philipp Jakob Maul, the M-logo is engraved in the left strip of the mechanism. "niet voor handelsdoeleinden" is stamped in the right strip. This makes clear this letter scale was made for the Dutch market. The text equals: Not legal for trade. The frame is a lightweight design. It's made of folded tin. The range is 100 grams, with a stripe per gram. The separate 5 grams indication is odd. The scale is placed concav thus improving the readability. right. This design exists also in a version with a range of 250 grams, see the concav scale . The version with a range of 500 grams has a heavier base made of steel strip, see for instance the concav with aluminum bowl. The letter scale has a zero adjusting screw.
